aSmart HUD AIR is an advanced vehicle digital dashboard featured by HUD mode and fully compatible with FoxyTag FIXED AND MOBILE SPEED CAMERAS DATABASE.

After registering you will be able to participate by signaling new cameras or by confirming existing ones. You would create trust links with the other users and benefit from more reliable information. This collaborative model makes that FoxyTag is today the most complete and up to date speed camera database in the world.

Of course, registering with FoxyTag.com is free. FoxyTag system works worldwide.

The lite version of the program called aSmartHUD 3D shares same user interface, but uses BUILT-IN speed cameras database. You can read more about it here.

Key features:

  • HUD MODE
  • SHORT TIME WEATHER FORECAST
  • COMBINED SPEED, LOCATION AND ALTITUDE 3D TRACK LOG GRAPH.
  • EDITABLE FoxyTag FIXED SPEED CAMERAS DATABASE
  • IPOD PLAYLIST REMOTE CONTROL;
  • GOOFLE MAPS SUPPORT;
It visualizies your
  • current speed
  • average speed,
  • time,
  • elapsed trip time,
  • heading,
  • altitude,
  • distance/time to stored Home location,
  • your location on the map (Street and Satellite image Google maps supported),
  • weather forecast for nearest 48 hours the with 3-hour time interval,
  • maximum reached speed (during the current trip or all your trips), maximum altitude and maximum distance to the starting point of your trip.
  • current playing music track;
Also it shows
  • positions of the nearest known speed cameras within an adjustible range;
  • color coded distance to the nearest known speed camera;
  • it's direction (if known);

On approach aSmart HUD AIR will give you sound and visual warning.

  • On the main radar screen the following marks can be displayed:

    - fixed speed camera.

    - mobile speed camera.

    - "ghost" speed camera. We using term "ghost" for the cameras which location may be unreliable. For example, just added (or deleted) and not confirmed by other users.

  • This icon indicate "dangerous" direction, the direction where a driver could get a fine if he is speeding:

    - camera works in your driving direction. Be carefull!

    - camera is looking for drivers going in opposite direction.

    - camera is beaming in your right. Quite possible, it's on the secondary road or will be dangerous after you will do a turn.

    - camera works for two directions at the same time.

    If the direction of the camera is unknown this icon will be grayed out.

    - icon indicates network error occured. Most possible, you driving in the area where no 3G or WiFi connection available.

  • You can use the program without registering with FoxyTag system, but in this case you will be connected in TEST mode logged to separate TEST Database. All your contributions will therefore be visible only by other users in TEST mode. But when the you send correct password, then you connect to the main Database.
    Also, you cannot add cameras in case your speed is less 20 kmh and GPS precision is lower then 35 meters. In that cases the "ADD/DEL" icon will be grayed out.

  • You can add new camera just by a single tap at "map" center, or at the "camera" icon:

    After you called the "Add Camera" screen your position is memorized, so you have time to finish the tagging process. Note: you cannot add cameras in case your GPS signal precision is lower then 50 meters.

  • With aSmartHUD Air you can create and save the driving routes (Google Directions service is used - the same as for the standard Map application) to follow them later. Application will display your current position on the route and display the route on the map.

    Every route is saved in the appplication database, so you don't need to re-create it every time application starts up.

  • Tap "Add" to create a new route, "Delete" erases the selected row of the routes table. Pressing "Go!" makes the selected route "current" - you will see your position on it (red ricle indicates the final position on the route, green circle is start position).

  • For creating a new route you need to set up the start and finish points of your trip, and then tap the "Route!" button. Also, you can define up to 8 waypoints (8 is a limitation of the Google Directions service).
    Start, Finish and waypoint positions are draggable - you can just move them over the map by finger to chnge their positions.
  • You can serch the locations on the map by address by using the "search" edit box in the top of the screen.

    In some cases you can have more then one alternative route. You can switch btween them using the "<" and ">" buttons, button will open full driving instuctions of the selected route list:

  • You can email the driving instructions to any e-mail address:

  • You can use "+" or "-" icons to adjust the map range. "+" increasing the range, so the map "zooms out".

  • When a you trying to cancel a camera, only the closest camera with a heading difference less than 45 degrees will be affected, and only if this camera is closer than 75 meters.
  • After entering your FoxyTag userneme and password tap the "Login" button. The message below will show you, was your login successfull. In case your client is too old and no longer supported there should be "unsupported client version" message displayed. If so, please download the newer version, all our updates are free.

  • Please carefully read the FoxyTag tagging rules. That's important!

  • Program downloads the speed cameras data according your moving path, so internet connection (3G or WiFi) is required. Depending on your connection plan, some additional charges may apply.

  • Trip time display: time elapsed since application startup.

  • Moving time display: time of your trip minus time spent for standing on traffic lights, fueling on petrol stations, etc (i.e. all the time when you are not moving and the speed is zero);

  • Direct distance/time to Home location display: the time is calculated on a basis if your current speed, and should be understood as "minimal time necessary to get to stored Home location on a direct line with current speed". Home location can be reset by tapping the "lightning" icon, located next to the distance;

  • "Fullscreen speed" indicator mode makes the spead reading more clear. Tap the speed to switch it on or off.

  • Alternative "Fullscreen speed" mode can be selected in Display Preferences.

  • Two fonts for the speed indication ("Arial" and "LCD") available.

  • You can minimize and maximize the "speed cameras/distance to start" display by tapping the blue triangle in it's upper right corner.

  • You can skip/rewind/pause/play music items in your current iPod playlist. With the current version you cannot select the playlist from the application - you need to use the standard "iPod" application to start initial playback.

  • In Photo Cam mode you can quickly take a photo of what's going on the road. Photo will be automatically saved into the Photos Album. Small preview of last recent taken picture is in upper right corner of the screen.

  • Tapping the "HUD" icon mirrors all the text, so if you position the iPhone horizontally under your car's windscreen you can see perfectly readable half-transparent reflection of the picture displayed.
    We love this mode! We found it much more convenient compared to traditional car dashboards (especially on the roads of Western Europe, which are full of speed cameras and where you need to watch your speedometer all the time). And last but not the least - it just looks cool.
    Note: this mode works pretty well at night time and twilight, but on direct sunlight the screen brightness can be insufficient. Depending on your windshield angle the image also can be slightly "double".

  • 3D Track Log Graph is a nique way to represent the speed, location and altitude data in a single 3D graph. Color coded speed and altitude chart is constantly adjusted according to your moving trajectory.
    You can access the 3D Track Log Graph screen by tapping the "Track" button on the main commands menu.

    The Track Preferences are available by tapping the left upper corner of the 3D Track Log Graph screen, where you can adjust the transparency of track data components or switch them off completely. Also, you can switch the speed chart style and the graph scale.
    Speed Chart Styles: - 2D: Speed chart will be displayed on the bottom of the screen (left side vertical in Portrait screen mode)
    - 3D Gradient: Speed chart adjusted with your moving path. Green bars reflect your lower speed points, red - higher.
    - 3D Limit Bars: Speed chart also adjusted with your moving path. The bars shows what speed limit you've been keeping in that point. Green color for first limit (city), yellow - second (public roads), etc.
    NOTE: due to processor performance issues, the track data size is limited to 1MB. If the data size is exceeding this limit, some of the most oldest data will be simplified (i.e. decreased it's detail level).

  • You can switch between different map styles:

    Also, you can use the "invert" option invert map colors.

  • "Lock rotation" option disables the map rotation, so the map North always will be oriented on top.
  • If you selected the monochrome map color, you can adjust it's brightness, what is especially useful at night time.

  • Program downloads the maps data according your moving path, so internet connection (3G or WiFi) is required. However, it re-using your Maps application cache, so it does not re-download it every time you moving on the same places. Depending on your connection plan, some additional charges may apply.
    You can switch the map off to save the internet traffic and battery life.

  • Landscape and portrait screen modes supported.

  • aSmart HUD can keep track on 4 speed limits, giving a warning (sound and visual) each time you crossing it. Normally, it's legal speed limits within cities, local roads and high-speed motorways. "Never exceed speed" is the speed you should not exceed under any conditions. For example, it can be a technical limit of your vehicle or the point where government can arrest your driving license.

  • Weather forecast is provided by Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the NRK. "aSmart HUD" uses the 3G or WiFi connection do retrieve the data, each weather update takes about 40-80 kilobytes. You can disable this feature by switching the "Display weather" to "Never". If "Every 5 seconds" option is on, the display will de switched between the weather data, "Nearest speed camera" and "Distance to Start" in cycle. Next two switches define time intervals for the data display. "+3 HR" will show the forecast for the time after 3 hours since cucurrent moment, "+9 HR" - 9 hours, etc. Temperature units (C, F) are selectable on the "Units" tab in Preferences.

  • Location Info (longitude and latitude, GPS measurement precision) and some more data is available on separate screen. You can adjust transparency of the "Location Info" screen to use both views at the same time.

    On the "Records" screen you can see the maximum reached speed, altitude or distance from start, for you current trip or for for all the trips you ever did.

  • You can choose between 6 different color themes.

  • Speed log chart is located below the camera data.

  • Several sound options available: "Electro", "Beep" (just another sound to mark the speed limits) and "Morse", when aSmart HUD beeps morse-code for "ONE" when you crossing the first speed limit, "TWO" for second, and "THREE" for third. The startup sound is morse-coded word "HELLO".

  • You can specify different measurement units (km/h, mph, knots and meters per second), display color scheme, sounds and more.

  • Troubleshooting a.k.a FAQ
  • Limitations
    • The program is running only on GPS-enabled iPhones 3G/3GS (second generation or higher) with iPhone OS 4.2 or higher. No iPod Touch, 1st-generation iPhones or minor OS versions supported.
    • The precision is affected by the satellite signal quality. On open-sky spaces it's pretty good, but under other conditions can noticeably decrease. Also, after startup it requires some time to locate the necessary satellites, so during first minutes of running the measurement can be less effective. If unsure, use the program only for reference, don't rely on it for 100%.
  • Thanks to everyone for your suggestions about additional functionality, there is a big chance they will be implemented in next version. Please forward your requests or bug reports to requests@atoll-ordenadores.com
