a.IRON HUD for iPad is advanced sci-fi style car digital dashboard. Main function of IRON HUD is just to look cool, but beside that it have:
HUD MODE: this mode mirrors the screen, so if you position the iPad horizontally under your car's windscreen you can see perfectly readable half-transparent reflection of the picture displayed.
Note: this mode works pretty well at night time and twilight, but on direct sunlight the screen brightness can be insufficient. Depending on your windshield angle the image also can be slightly "double".
PHOTO LOGGING AND MARKING: taking photo and saving it with printed in speed, time and GPS data. There is an option to take the photo automatically within specified time interval, so you will have complete photo log of your trip saved.
SPEED CAMERAS EDITABLE DATABASE: includes an information about speed cameras in
p>The fixed cameras database includes an information about speed cameras in
- Europe (whole EU)
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- United Arab Emirates
You can edit the database by adding or removing the speed cameras and set cameras speed limit.
On approach aIRON HUD will give you sound and visual warning. Warning also will be given in case your speed exceeds the speed limit set for that camera.
NOTE: It's not guaranteed all speed cameras in your area are included into the database. However, we will release database updates right after the new information will become available.
After you called the "Add Camera" screen your position is memorized, so you have time to finish the tagging process.
Note: you cannot add cameras in case your GPS signal precision is lower then 50 meters.
OPENSTREET MAP AND 3D LOG GRAPH: unique way to represent the speed and location data in a single 3D graph. Color coded speed chart is constantly adjusted according to your moving trajectory on an OpenStreet map. In Track Preferences, you can adjust the transparency of all the components of the chart or switch them off completely.
You can email your current track as a GPX file to any email address;
Program downloads the maps data according your moving path, so internet connection (3G or WiFi) is required. However, it re-using your Maps application cache, so it does not re-download it every time you moving on the same places.
Depending on your connection plan, some additional charges may apply.
You can switch the map off to save the internet traffic and battery life. ROUTING AND TRACKING MODULE: you can create and save the driving routes (Google Directions service is used) to follow them later. Application will display your current position on the route and display the route on the map.
Every route is saved in the application database, so you don't need to re-create it every time application starts up.
Unlike the standard Maps application, aIRON HUD starts download the map data only when the GPS precision is enough to measure your current speed.
Tap "Add" to create a new route, "Delete" erases the selected row of the routes table. Pressing "Go!" makes the selected route "current" - you will see your position on it (red ricle indicates the final position on the route, green circle is start position).
For creating a new route you need to set up the start and finish points of your trip, and then tap the "Route!" button. Also, you can define up to 8 waypoints (8 is a limitation of the Google Directions service).
Start, Finish and waypoint positions are draggable - you can just move them over the map by finger to chnge their positions.
You can serch the locations on the map by address by using the "search" edit box in the top of the screen.
You can email the driving instructions to any e-mail address:
In some cases you can have more then one alternative route. You can switch btween them using the "<" and ">" buttons,
button will open full driving instuctions of the selected route list:
IPOD MUSIC CONTROL: select the music iPod Playlist, pause, play, skip or rewind it's items, set the player in Shuffle or Repeat mode.
SHORT-TIME WEATHER FORECAST: detailed weather forecast for nearest 48 hours the with 3-hour time interval.
Weather forecast is provided by Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the NRK. "aIRON HUD" uses the 3G or WiFi connection do retrieve the data, each weather update takes about 40-80 kilobytes. You can disable this feature by switching the "Display weather" to "Never". If "Every 5 seconds" option is on, the display will de switched between the weather data, "Nearest speed camera" and "Distance to Start" in cycle.
Next two switches define time intervals for the data display. "+3 HR" will show the forecast for the time after 3 hours since cucurrent moment, "+9 HR" - 9 hours, etc.
Temperature units (C, F) are selectable on the "Units" tab in Preferences.
Landscape and portrait screen modes supported.
aIRON HUD can keep track on 4 speed limits, giving a warning (sound and visual) each time you crossing it. Normally, it's legal speed limits within cities, local roads and high-speed motorways. "Never exceed speed" is the speed you should not exceed under any conditions. For example, it can be a technical limit of your vehicle or the point where government can arrest your driving license.
You can specify different measurement units (km/h, mph, knots and meters per second), display color scheme, sounds and more.

Troubleshooting a.k.a FAQ
The program is running only on GPS-enabled iPads 3G with iPad OS 6.1 or higher. No iPad WiFi, or minor OS versions supported.
The precision is affected by the satellite signal
quality. On open-sky spaces it's pretty good, but under other
conditions can noticeably decrease. Also, after startup it requires
time to locate the necessary satellites, so during first minutes of
measurement can be less effective.
